Silent Operation - no rollers or tracks
I had the pleasure of testing the Yowza Fitness Sanibel elliptical recently and I realize that this is one heck of a high quality elliptical machine, which is being offered at a crazy low price. The Yowza Sanibel is driven by a silent electro-magnetic rear drive system, which produces a much smoother feel that most of the cheaply made front drive ellipticals in that price range. Yowza’s rear drive ellipticals are unique in that they don’t require any rollers or tracks, which only serve to add friction and potential service and maintenance issues.

The Sanibel features a four bar linkage system in the front of the unit that produces a long 21” stride which is suitable for any and all users and Yowza’s unique Sure-fit® foot pedals rock back and forth on top of a cushioned rubber shock absorber which keeps your heels on the pedals at all times.

But it is the upper body movement that really pushes the Sanibel to the top of the heap for 2010 ellipticals. Instead of using the typical ski-pole style upper body arms, which can only provide marginal benefits, Yowza has designed the “Cardio Core upper body motion” which recruits all the major muscles of the abdominal and lower back while mimicking the human body’s intuitive path of motion.

The handles on the Sanibel are multi-grip, contoured and rotate on a natural inward motion that feels almost like throwing a punch. Yowza has a patented gearing mechanism that produces a separate level of user-defined resistance for the upper body, which is perfect for interval training. The Sanibel is the first elliptical I have seen that allows users to consciously do more work with the arms and mid section. When doing so you can expect your heart rate to soar above the standard level produced by other ellipticals.
