Description

About the Kelly Kettle Scout Kit

The Scout is the medium size Kelly Kettle. The 41 oz Kettle, Cook Set and Pot Support fit neatly together into their own drawstring carrying bag which can be put into or carried hanging from a rucksack or backpack.

The Kelly Kettle Scout Basic Kit is a highly efficient outdoor camping kit suitable for car camping, family picnics, scouts, kayaking, caravan camping and outdoor education. Even though the Scout is technically the ‘middle’ size kettle, it is still a large stainless steel kettle which holds 41 fluid ounces and is a vital piece of gear for wilderness survival kits / disaster kits.

Introducing a Camping Kettle with Whistle

A green whistle has replaced the orange stopper on the Kettles and will sound a nice loud whistle to let you know when the water has boiled. Older Kelly Kettles may have an Orange Rubber or Cork Stopper. These MUST ALWAYS be removed before using the kettle. The Kettle must never be boiled with the older stoppers in the spout, but the new GREEN camping kettle with whistle can be left in while the water is boiling.

Best Camping Kettle in Bad Weather

All Kelly Kettle products are the best kettle for camping as they work extremely well in stormy weather conditions. They are a vital piece of camping equipment for any outdoor adventure. Extremely dependable as they have no moving parts to fail or break.

Burn All Natural Fuel

Never pack fuel again and save money. Kelly Kettles are cost free to run and eco-friendly, as they use all natural fuel such as twigs, dry grass, heather, birch bark, pine cones, dry animal dung, etc. Remember: The Kettle has been designed to boil water extremely fast in all weather conditions using very little fuel. When filled with water, the Kelly Kettle should always be carried upright to avoid any spillage/leakage from the water spout or chimney top.

Kelly Kettle users have described their kettles as the “Greatest Invention of all Time”.

Ultimate Kits are absolutely the best value when purchasing Kelly Kettle products!

Note: The fire bases invert partially up into the bottom of our Kelly Kettles to make the unit as compact as possible for transporting and storage. Normally, the fire base will not invert fully up into the kettle. This is particularly evident with the Medium size Kelly Kettle. Never force the inverted base up into the Kelly Kettle to try and achieve a “Perfect Fit.” This may cause damage to your Kelly Kettle or result in the base becoming stuck within the kettle.

Love my kelly kettle. I Did a lot of research before buying this product. I believe this to be the finest water heating system for camping on the market. You don’t have to buy fuel and heats faster than those that do.

This little camp stove is all it promised to be, and even more impressive when in use in difficult conditions. Able to get hot water in just a few minutes using 1 match and dry pine needle duff and a few small sticks in the burn chamber. Wish I had found out about this many years earlier. I’m keeping mine in the car as part of our emergency preparedness once winter arrives here in Minnesota.

Kelly Kettle is a proven winner! After reviewing previous purchasers’ comments, I ordered the Scout Kelly Kettle. I’m glad I did:) Virtually everyone has liked their purchase of the KK, and it’s no wonder why. Hot, sterilized water is a must on any trip and this product line delivers! I chose stainless steel for its durability and for health reasons associated with aluminum. Sure it’s a tad heavier but it’s worth it to me. The water heats up so quickly, with a bare minimum of small sticks. You can also use a propane stove, Trangia, etc., so this kettle is versatile. Check on the quantity of water held, and outside dimensions then make your purchase. You won’t be disappointed. The videos don’t lie:)

Fantastic for camping especially where twigs are available. I love this kettle. We had a camp out in the plains of Wyoming and it was my favorite stove. Having tried a variety of contraptions, this is the best if you don’t mind strapping it to your backpack and have twigs around for fuel. There was only a little bit of kindling available where we camped but it took barely a handful of twigs and we had boiling water for coffee and amazingly fast! The Etekcity Ultralight Portable Outdoor Backpacking Camping Stove with Piezo Ignition is small and lightweight in comparison but you have to carry fuel cans with you. sometimes the piezos take some patience to get lit. What I love about the Kelly Kettle is that you don’t have to carry fuel, if you’re camping where small twigs, pine cones, or other kindlings are found. I love my Jetboil MiniMo Camping Stove too but there again you have to carry fuel cans and your cooking is limited to what fuel you carry in and have to carry those cans back out. The Kelly Kettle can be used over and over with just twigs off the ground and you can impulsively heat up an extra tea, coffee, snack without worrying if you’ll have enough fuel left over to cook dinner.

It works and works fast. Just received it a few days ago and tested it in the backyard. was able to heat up a kettle full of water from start to boiling hot it 10 minutes. That was just using a few small pieces of broken branches that had fallen from my trees. It burns fast and hot! Haven’t tried cooking over the top yet while I am boiling the water, but by how hot the air felt coming out of the top I can easily see it working fine. Will try that out in a couple of weeks when I go out camping.

One Kool Kit. This thing is great! I can’t believe I haven’t run across it before now. Well made …good concept. It is a little bulky/heavy if you are a backcountry hiker really trying to limit your weight …I bought the medium one …the small one may be better for the backcountry trips. I like the fact that I don’t have to carry around a fuel canister …I’m not fond of the canisters (just me being me). So far …I’ve only boiled water with this thing and have used the grill, pan, or pot …but I know they’ll work well. Another reviewer suggested that you put paper towels between the components to prevent rattling and clanking noises …follow that advice if the noise bothers you. I keep this thing in my vehicle in case of an emergency ….even though I haven’t taken the time yet, I’m planning to try some creative storage of other items when the kit is in the storage bag …like food items, extra utensils, seasoning, etc. I’m glad I bought it …I just need to use it more!!!

Great Idea. The Kelly Kettle works as described in the ad. I took some sticks and in front of my disbelieving wife started a fire. In less than five minutes there was boiling water in the kettle.

This gets hot pretty quickly, but keep a pile of tinder close at hand…pinecones, twigs, pieces of paper. It burns up fast and needs to be constantly fed to get the water boiling or to cook something up. Will be perfect when the power goes out for a quick cup of tea or to fill the hot water bag on a cold night.

Works fine, but don’t bother with the pot on top of the chimney as a means for cooking. I bought this so that we could boil water for coffee and heat up hot chocolate with milk at the same time without taking up a burner on our camp stove that we need to cook breakfast, and without using more propane. The positives: it’s easy to get a fire going, and once the fire is going, the water boils quickly. We did find that we needed to keep feeding the fire for the first several minutes or it burned out quickly before heating the water. But, it was easy for my elementary-aged son to start the fire and keep it going. The pot that comes with easily fit enough cocoa for two mugs, and the kettle boiled enough water for two good-sized cups of coffee and a little water left over for putting out the fire. It was very convenient to use the little twigs and leaves on our campsite as fuel. The negatives: First, this is bulky. This is NOT a piece of backpacking equipment. When we tried to heat the cocoa using the potholder in the chimney, it snuffed out the fire and we had to take everything off to restart the fire. Even after we got the fire going again, we could not get it hot enough to heat the cocoa and ended up waiting until the water boiled, then putting the grate on top of the firebase and heating it directly that way. Definitely not the convenient one-stop cooking unit I was hoping for. I did not buy the hobo stove, but now that I know how this really works, I think I will add that to my kit for a better cooking surface than the grill. Tips: Use a fire starter (I used lint inside a paper toilet paper roll wrapped in newspaper) and keep feeding the fire for several minutes; get the hobo stove and don’t try to use the chimney for cooking, get the whistle stopper to keep the boiling water from spilling, pack a hot pad.

Love it. This kettle is easy, fast, efficient, and fun. This is not a backpacking cookset so if you are looking for something lightweight and small, then look elsewhere. If you are looking for a quick and easy way to boil water or cook food on a camping trip or picnic then this is a great product. We took it camping and we chose this over our indoor propane stove (we have a pop-up camper with a small kitchen) for making coffee each morning because it was so much faster than boiling water in a pot over the stove. Bonus feature – when you’re done using the kettle you can dump the hot coals and ashes in your fire ring as a nice fire starter for your campfire too! We chose the Scout because the Base Camp is just so big and we are happy with this medium size. It was enough water to fill a standard french press or make a few cups of tea. We have not yet cooked with it but I imagine that because of how easy it is to stoke the fire while using the kettle that cooking would be just as easy and fast as boiling water. It’s sturdy and compact and seems to be durable. I can’t compare this brand to any others of this style but we are happy with this purchase and would buy again.

Perfect size for making water for coffee for two. Gave it to my husband as a birthday gift and worked exactly how he expected it would. With only a few twigs, some pine cones, and a match he was able to almost immediately start a decent fire inside and bring our water to a boil in minutes. Perfect size for making water for coffee for two or three people.

Only one problem! I even let the small ones add tinder (pine needles and small sticks) to keep the tea water hot and boiling. I had to place a strategic rock to keep the “littles” from adding pine needles to the water by accident. Once I’d done that, all was well. God bless the Irishman for inventing this kettle. Excellent, easily carried, addition to my pack. I love the Scout.

Great camp stove. Good product, chain that holds to cap is substandard. Other than that, great camping product for day hikes, boondocking, or car camping. Items nest together for travel and storage, heats the water quickly and you can cook food on the top of the stove at the same time.

It is great for what it is. I would not use this for backpacking. Kayak camping maybe as a good alternative to always using my Whisperlite if there is room in the boat. There is definitely something more aesthetic about tending a small, efficient fire while making tea.

It’s a tough cookie. The only thing I don’t care for in this particular Kelly Kettle is that I wish I had gotten a bigger model. That, however, does not reflect on the design and manufacturer quality of the kettle. This is a super tough product and great for camping. I think it really shines for winter use. Just stuff twigs in the bottom and literally in minutes you have boiling water. The double-wall construction rocket chimney is so efficient that is where the value comes in. No adding log after log. Just pick up the twigs and small branches at a campsite and wah-lah! This particular model is really for single hikers/campers, in my opinion.
